Marian Gaborik is a very fast and skilled player for the Minnesota Wild. Because of his speed he has the ability to take the puck wide and use his speed to get around the defensemen. Before the rule change he could not use this ability because once he got around the defensemen he would just get hooked, and therefore slowed down. These types of hooks and slashings were not called as penalties in the “old NHL.” With the rules of the “new NHL” he can finally take advantage of the skills he has that got him into the NHL. It also makes the game more fun to watch because there are more goals being scored and faster game play. With the new NHL rules the game of hockey is being played the way it is suppose to be played, whoever can score more goals wins, not whoever is the cheapest without getting a penalty.
